We've just got the news by Nishant Thakur presenting P4rgaming. Sorry, for copying but, it's a hot news! The latest streak of tragedies involving gun violence and accidental shootings has sparked a movement within Activision to support gun control. Their first act is to remove all guns in the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts.
The following is the press release Activision gave today:
Activision Announces No Guns will be Featured in Call of Duty®: GhostsSANTA MONICA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Activision announces that no guns will be featured in Call of Duty®: Ghosts in support of gun control. The franchise that has long been vilified by the media for perpetuating gun violence is finally taking a stand. Call of Duty: Ghosts, which is to be published by Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq: ATVI), and developed by Infinity Ward, the creators of the original Call of Duty®, will set the tone for war games for many future generations.“Infinity Ward knows that removing the guns from a game that is set during wartime scenarios may seem blasphemous to some,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. “War has existed all throughout history so there are definitely some wars that have been fought without guns. We are not yet ready to show players the first in-game footage of Call of Duty: Ghosts; however, we want to let players know that the story, setting, and gameplay will all be the same Call of Duty quality that players have grown up with.”“Who needs guns?” said Mark Rubin, executive producer of developer Infinity Ward. “I think a lot of people put too much emphasis on the guns when it comes to these types of games. Hearing about all these horrific stories of gun deaths really put in perspective what it means to hold a gun. We figured it was about time that we tried to create a modern war game that doesn’t use a single gun.”“We applaud Activision for really living up to their word and removing all of the guns from their Call of Duty game. If only every other developer would remove guns from their games, then we can finally live in a virtual world without guns,” said Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.Fans have been pre-ordering their copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts at retail outlets worldwide.Call of Duty: Ghosts will release on Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC on November 5. Call of Duty: Ghosts will also be available for next generation platforms.
Some gamers are not taking this news very well with some declaring that if Activision goes through with this, they will purchase guns and shoot their copies of previous Call of Duty games in an act of protest.
It is also unknown how this will affect the gameplay in Call of Duty: Ghosts; however, sources say that Infinity Ward will now focus on long-range weapons such as crossbows, darts and shurikens.
